You might have some questions before starting therapy
Can counseling really help?
Yes! Research and our own experience provide convincing evidence that therapy is effective. Clients often report progress in the first few sessions. We’ll work closely with you to create a plan that will move you toward your goals.
I have friends to talk to. Why would I need counseling?
Counseling is different. The support of friends and family is valuable, but when you work with a therapist, you receive a fresh, objective perspective. The therapeutic relationship is unique. Our clinicians have years of training in effective communication and collaboration.
If I start counseling, I’ll have to go forever.
This is a myth. Your counselor will work with you to create time-specific objectives that help you achieve goals and maintain your gains on your own. Our job is to work ourselves out of a job.
I don’t want to sit around dredging up my past.
We hear you. We’ll meet you where you are now and look at where you want to go. We’ll work with you to set goals that are meaningful to you. If there’s value in working on past events, we’ll talk with you about it and help you make choices for your own therapy.
I don’t think I can afford it.
Therapy is a sound investment in yourself, your future, your relationships, and your health. We appreciate the investment in time and money that counseling represents. We’re committed to providing you with new perspectives and skills that will help you now and in the future.
